Thank you for visiting chiarastudios.com, the website of Nancy Bonta Voitko. Nancy has been an artist for over 30 years, receiving her undergraduate degree from State University of New York at Oneonta, continuing her studies of classical techniques at the Reilly League of Artists in White Plains, New York, and then at the New York Academy of Art in New York City. As a portrait artist, she rarely shows her work since most of it is commissioned by private buyers. The works shown on this site are either oil on canvas or wooden board, or charcoal on paper.
The process
When commissioned, Nancy works from life, photos, or digital images. She prefers to take the photos herself when possible, and sometimes sketches the subject in person. This affords the opportunity to get to know the subject, thus infusing their unique personality into the portrait. When this is not possible, Nancy will ask questions about the subject, also asking to see as many photographs as possible. It is that essence of the subject which she aims to capture, giving it a timeless, intimate quality.
